Introduction

The Clergy Consultation is a confidential support organisation for male and female lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex clergy, religious, ordinands, seminarians and their partners.

It was founded as a small group in 1976, when homosexuals in general lived in a world of fear, secrecy and ignorance. Today, with attitudes more mixed and debates more public, the Consultation continues to provide an important network of support for lesbian and gay clergy, as well as engaging the church in constructive dialogue.

The Consultation provides mutual support and advice, offers a forum for education and discussion, and responds to the professional and pastoral needs of homosexual clergy. The Consultation invites Bishops, Theologians and others who work in church structures to engage in dialogue. It organises day conferences twice a year, usually in London, as well as some social activities.

The Content of the meetings is varied and sometimes light-hearted, but always stimulating and rewarding. The day includes a Eucharist and Lunch, with other opportunities for prayer and socialising informally throughout the day. A bookstall is usually available. The Consultation has over 200 members and around 40 usually attend the meetings.

A newsletter is sent up to 4 times a year to all members, giving a summary of the previous meeting as well as details of the next. News of other lesbian and gay Christian groups, meetings, books and events are also included.
